A few months ago a friend told me about her positive experience with lemon, which has become an essential food in her day to day life.
Much is read about the benefits of this fruit and it is true that it is a recognized and effective phototherapeutic remedy. I use it a lot in the kitchen and to flavor infusions, but it was hard for me to drink the pure juice; until I started to become aware of all the benefits of daily lemon consumption.

The innumerable virtues of lemon
- It is probably one of the most widespread traditional natural remedies: who has not taken at least once lemon juice with honey to relieve cold symptoms?
- The benefits that this fruit gives us are multiple and we can benefit in each season of the year (in the winter to reinforce the defenses and in the summer to prevent varicose veins and as a remineralizer).
- However, its effectiveness as a natural remedy has been proven scientifically in many cases and that is why it is considered a functional food.
- Scientific research has also confirmed many of the properties of lemon, which can be the perfect ally in cases of diarrhea, hypertension, varicose veins, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, skin blemishes and conditions caused by fluid retention (such as gout).
- Although its juice contains an abundant amount of ascorbic acid its effect is alkalizing, with purifying action of the blood.
How to drink lemon daily to take advantage of all its properties?
Ideally, take the raw fruit. I have become accustomed to drinking the juice of half a lemon mixed with a glass of warm water every day fasting and now I use it much more also in the kitchen because I love the sensation of freshness that it adds to the dishes (which is appreciated above all in summer).
It is contraindicated in case of gastroduodenal ulcer and to avoid tooth enamel wear (due to ascorbic acid), taking the juice with a straw helps to reduce contact with the teeth.
As I have commented in another post, the juice is excellent to remove thirst and dehydrated lemon skin can be used in the preparation of tisanes, mixed with other plants, especially in this case it is important that the lemon is organically grown, to avoid assuming pesticides and other toxic substances.
If you do not have fresh lemons, there are several lemon-based preparations on the market: from essential oils to dry extracts, which you can include in your diet following the advice of an expert.
The active principles of the fruit are found both in the pulp (pectin, vitamins, and flavonoids) and in the skin, more precisely in the per carp where the essential oils are concentrated and a great variety of elements: coumarone, flavonoids, vitamin C and dietary fiber.
The pectin contained in the pulp has an ant diarrheal effect and protects the gastrointestinal mucosa; its satiating power makes it indicated as a supplement to slimming diets.

The essential oil obtained from this fruit has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, it can be applied topically diluted with base oil or taken with honey or sugar (dose of 2 drops a day in adults). To prevent photosensitization reactions, avoid exposure to sunlight after applying the lemon essential oil on the skin.
