Bullying in the Workplace – What do you do About it?

Most of us have to work in order to be able to earn money to live and to have a good time when we are off. However, although some people might not be overly enthused about their job, being bullied at work is something that is really not acceptable and must be dealt with.

Unfortunately, workplace bullying is something that does still go on and affects many different industries. Just like at school, bullying should never be something that is tolerated in a workplace and speaking out about what is happening can be hard.

Workplace bullying can lead to mental health problems such as depression and anxiety, loss of sleep and of course affect your work and career – if you resign due to being bullied in the workplace, this is a case where you can make a constructive dismissal claim as the employer has breached their side of the contract that you will have signed when you started working there.

If you are going down this route it is a good idea to speak to a professional who deals with these matters – contact employment law friend for example if you feel that you have a constructive dismissal case.

However, before you get into this, it may be something that can be resolved without having to do anything as drastic as leaving your job. Speaking to someone who is not anything to do with the bullying such as a manager or a HR representative should be your first port of call as they will be able to listen to what you have to say and hopefully take measures to deal with the problem.
