When planning a CCTV system, it is more than just choosing cameras to install within your office space.
Camera Positions and Desk Arrangement
When positioning cameras for sight lines around tall partitions and high storage units these need to be moved. Also when a till point or server room door is being covered, desks between the camera and the target of the camera will block the view of that target. Therefore furniture needs to be arranged around the set camera positions.
Cable Runs and Wall Space
Cables will run along skirting boards and across ceiling voids as surface trunking or within conduits. Some walls may not be suitable for storing items such as books or equipment, and will need to be left clear to allow access for future maintenance.
Staff Privacy Zones
Ensure that rooms such as restrooms, prayer rooms and changing rooms are not covered by cameras. Refer to the ICO’s guidance on workplace CCTV and staff privacy and if necessary consider the use of frosted glass to view adjacent areas. See also CCTV Installation Worcester.
Lighting Around Camera Positions
CCTV cameras positioned near to a bright window are vulnerable to glare. Typically this will result in monitors being repositioned within the area under surveillance or blinds fitted to the window.
Signage at Entrances and Reception
In order to comply with the UK laws regarding visible signage of CCTV installation, CCTV signs must be displayed in clear view at entrances, receptions, etc. in order to inform visitors of the presence of CCTV.
Minor planning beforehand avoids a lot of re-arranging afterwards!
